PUBLISHER SUMMARY: You are what you love. But you might not love what you think.

In this book, award-winning author James K. A. Smith shows that who and what we worship fundamentally shape our hearts. And while we desire to shape culture, we are not often aware of how culture shapes us. We might not realize the ways our hearts are being taught to love rival gods instead of the One for whom we were made. Smith helps readers recognize the formative power of culture and the transformative possibilities of Christian practices. He explains that worship is the “imagination station” that incubates our loves and longings so that our cultural endeavors are indexed toward God and his kingdom. This is why the church and worshiping in a local community of believers should be the hub and heart of Christian formation and discipleship.

NOTE FROM AMY: This book is based on another book by the same author, Desiring the Kingdom.  It was one of the most formational books of all that I read and studied during my time in seminary.  This is the same material presented in a more concise and practical way.  May we be formed together by the God we love this summer!

I would love for you to meet with a small group, perhaps your table group from the past year, or maybe some neighbors or a few friends and discuss this book over the summer!  It has 7 chapters, so you could discuss one per week, or you could meet up 1, 2 or 4 times to discuss several chapters at once.  Here are some questions to help guide your discussion:

I will meet upstairs in  Loft 1 from June 6 – July 18, 9:30 – 10:30 am with anyone who would like to discuss this book, one chapter at a time!
