Traditions and external conformity to the OT Law had replaced a life of faith by the Jewish religious leaders and their followers. Keeping the letter of the Law...for example, not murdering... allowed them to ignore the intent of the Law...don’t hate or be angry with others. Jesus corrects this and other errors by pointing out six specific areas where this “disconnect” was taking place.
