The King’s Power
Matthew has laid the foundational structure for his argument in chapters one through seven. Jesus had both the legal and regal right to rule as attested in the genealogy and birth account. The King, according to protocol, had a forerunner that preceded Him. His moral qualifications were authenticated during His baptism and victory over temptation. The Sermon on the Mount was the King’s instructions to His disciples on how to enter His Kingdom and live as His followers. Now the King manifests His power
as a demonstration of His right to rule!
