Renewing Rhythms

A note from Ginny Olson from the TBC monthly newsletter.

Summer brings a beautiful shift in our rhythms, offering a welcomed respite from the rush of daily routines. Through traveling, splashing in the pool, or sharing special meals, this season invites us to relax, slow down, and enjoy new experiences. It has been incredibly inspiring to watch people from all corners of the globe unite in the United States to celebrate the World Cup this summer.

In interviews with spectators, a resonant theme has been one of deep refreshment. Complete strangers are discovering an unexpected camaraderie and generosity, sparking a shared sense of hope and joy. Yet, while the global excitement of the World Cup is beautiful, it is ultimately short-lived, and its uplifting feelings are fleeting.

Isaiah reminds us that as we press into God, “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” (Isaiah 26: 3)

True, enduring refreshment comes when we pivot our gaze toward eternity. Focusing on the joy and hope we have in Jesus renews our spirits in a way that the world simply cannot duplicate. Summer provides the perfect margin to deliberately slow down and listen to God, dive into His Word, and serve our communities.

“God is entirely sufficient for the soul that finds its rest in Him.” — A.W. Tozer

Instead of running ourselves ragged, we are invited to rest deeply in His comfort. Rather than absorbing the loud, divisive noise of the world, we can choose to meditate on His unchanging truth. Instead of focusing on ourselves, we can open our hearts to share the grand vision of God’s wonderful kingdom with those He places directly in our paths. Pressing into Him is where we find the lasting joy and hope that sustains us through every season.
