Strength for Contentment
#10 in the Unbreakable Joy series
Tim Cartwright
Key Passage: Philippians 4:10-23
“We must keep in mind that this passage is flanked by a reference to the Philippians anxiety over their needs (4:6-7) and by a promise that God will supply those needs (4:19).” – Moises Silva
- Contentment Is Not Cold Indifference
- Contentment Transcends Circumstances
- Contentment Is Learned
Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. – Philippians 4:11-12
- Discontentment: Always pursuing, never finding
- Contentment Flows from Strength Provided by Christ
- Contentment Flows from Relationships
Yet it was kind of you to share my trouble. I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God. – Philippians 4:14,18
Are you in need? Rejoice that God has supplied every need!
