Community Groups are a vital part of the life of Temple Bible Church. We desire to see everyone at TBC connected to a small group community - nobody standing alone. It is in these small group environments where many aspects of the intimate fellowship of the early church that we read about in the book of Acts can most naturally be experienced today.

"They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe... They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved." Acts 2:42-47 (NIV)

They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people.

The Purpose

Small groups are great environments for fostering spiritual growth and support through relationships. They are not intended to just be Bible studies, but rather to be places where people truly share their hearts and lives with each other and grow together as they experience the application of the Word of God to their life. This purpose of small groups can be summarized with the following ideas. They are:
In a church the size of TBC, it is easy to feel disconnected and isolated in the crowd of people that attend worship services each week. Small groups provide the environment to establish and build deep and meaningful relationships with other people and families in the Body. A small group is a place where “everybody knows your name” and where you can experience the connection to and fellowship with other believers that we see modeled by the early Christians in the book of Acts.
Spiritual growth is another important purpose of small groups. In our groups, we are encouraged to grow as Christ’s disciples and to become more like Him as we discuss and apply God’s Word to our lives with other like minded, committed believers. The small group provides an important environment in which to grow in both the knowledge of the Word and the practice of the practical application of it to life.
The small group is the front line care giving organization for its members. They care for, support, and encourage each other through all the circumstances of life. Because of the intimate friendships that are developed over time in a small group, other members of the group are frequently the first to respond when a personal trial or tragedy is encountered by another. No one in a small group should ever have to worry about facing anything life throws at them alone.
